Charging points for electric cars

Charging points for electric cars

To recharge the battery of your electric car, there are normal, semi-fast or fast charging stations, depending on the charging power you need. Using the most suitable for your vehicle will make your experience of use more satisfactory. In the next post we explain the different types of charging points and their characteristics.

The electric car is here to stay and one of the aspects that has evolved the most is the charging points, fully adapting to your needs. Today we introduce you to the types of existing charging points.

Types of electric car charging points

We are going to classify the charging points into three types: those with standard or linked charging, those with semi-fast charging and those with fast charging.

Standard or linked charging point

It is an ideal charging point for homes or companies. With every hour of charging you get 40 km of autonomy in the battery of your electric car.

There are different modalities:

Charging point with conventional plug

This type of electric car charging points have a maximum power of 2.3 kW (and a 10 A socket). Installing them costs approximately 350 euros and the annual energy expenditure, under the assumption of a charge of 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, between 300 and 550 euros depending on the contracted rate.

Regarding the charging time, with each hour of connection to the charging point, 15 km of autonomy is achieved.

Specific load point or Wall box

In this case the corresponding power is from 3.3 kW to 7.5 kW (from 16 to 32 A). The initial investment for this charging point is about 1,000 euros, and the annual cost of electricity for the vehicle between 400 and 650 euros, depending on the contracted rate, and taking into account a charge of between 3 and 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Semi-fast charging point

It is an ideal installation for higher loading speed needs. They are recharging points for charging facilities for more than one vehicle (logistics and distribution companies, parking linked to medium-sized supermarkets, parking for cinemas in areas with few inhabitants, etc.). These recharging points can recharge the battery of an electric car at a range of between 40 and 120 km per hour of recharging.

To be more specific, we must make a differentiation in the semi-fast charging points according to whether they are alternating current or direct current.

Semi-fast alternating current (AC) charging point

With a power of between 7.5 and 22 kW, you need an initial investment that can range from € 6,000 to € 15,000 and an annual electricity cost of about € 3,500, taking into account three charges a day of one hour each.

Each charging hour equals one autonomy between 40 and 120 km.

Direct current (DC) semi-fast charging point

This installation has a power of 22 kW and requires a Initial investment that can range from € 15,000 to € 20,000 and an annual cost of about € 4,000, taking into account three daily charges of one hour each.

Fast charging point

They are recharging points at a speed of 120 km of autonomy for every twenty minutes of charging.

These stations can be both alternating current (AC) and continuous (DC) and have a power ranging from 50 kW, continuously, or 43 kW, alternately. To have them you need an investment of € 50,000, and an annual cost of € 8,000 starting from three charges a day of half an hour each.

As you can see, there is a charging point for individuals, businesses and companies. Each use will require a different investment. The three modalities, however, are joined by one factor: the rapid amortization of the investment.

SP Solar recommends adhering to a rate with hourly discrimination. Thus, and taking into account that the load is carried out at night, you lower the costs since the electricity is cheaper, with this rate, from the night until noon.

If you have an electric car or are considering having one, we can help you. We advise you and install a recharging point in addition to proposing the supervalle rate
